Before cleaning, empty and depressurize the sprayer
Work over a sink and open the sprayer slowly. Return usable oil to an appropriate clean container only if it has remained fresh and uncontaminated; otherwise dispose of it according to local guidance. Never mix cleaning liquid into oil that you plan to use.
Check the product instructions before separating the pump, tube or seals. Small parts can be easy to lose, and not every component is designed for long soaking.
Use warm water and a small amount of dish soap
Wash the empty bottle with warm—not boiling—water and mild dish soap. Add clean warm soapy water, reassemble only as directed, and operate the sprayer several times over the sink so the solution can move through the intake path.
Empty the solution, add clean warm water and spray again until no suds remain. Repeating a gentle rinse is safer than forcing the nozzle with a pin, knife or wire, which can damage the opening and change the spray pattern.
Wipe the nozzle instead of scraping it
Use a soft, damp cloth to loosen residue around the outside of the nozzle. If the product instructions allow removable parts, clean them only with the method specified there. Do not enlarge the spray hole or apply a flame, high heat or harsh drain-cleaning chemicals.
Let every part dry completely
Residual water can affect the oil and the next spray. Place the opened parts on a clean towel in a ventilated area and allow them to dry fully before refilling. Do not seal the bottle while moisture is still visible inside.
If the spray is still uneven
- Confirm that the intake tube is attached and positioned correctly.
- Check that the cap is fitted evenly and any seal is sitting flat.
- Try a supported, less viscous cooking oil at normal room temperature.
- Prime the pump with several controlled presses after refilling.
- Stop using the sprayer if the bottle is cracked or a seal or nozzle is damaged.
Reduce future residue
Wipe the nozzle after use, keep the cap area clean and refill with clean utensils. Rather than continually topping up old oil, periodically empty and clean the sprayer according to its instructions. Store oil away from excess heat and direct light, following the oil maker's guidance.
